You’ve heard of the Hatfields & McCoys feud—now, it’s time to explore the rest of the story. The Hatfields & McCoys Feud Historic Driving Tour is a self-guided journey through the rugged, scenic mountains of Kentucky and West Virginia, connecting you with the key sites of the world’s most famous family feud.
How to Begin Your Feud Tour
The best way to begin your tour is by stopping at the Pikeville-Pike County, KY Welcome Center . This tour is a 4 to 6 hour long tour that will take you from Pikeville into Pike County, and across the border into West Virginia. The sites have no admission fee and are open during daylight hours, seven days a week, year-round.
We provide a FREE Feud Driving Tour brochure with detailed directions from our Welcome Center, which includes QR codes for easy GPS directions. A companion audio CD or USB is also available for sale in the gift shop, which goes along with the brochure providing storytelling and music. You can also pick up the tour brochure and audio CD/USB at the Hampton Inn’s front desk for after-hours access.
We recommend booking your stay at one of Pikeville’s convenient hotels, like the Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express, to enjoy modern comfort while exploring historic feud country.
What You’ll See
The tour takes you to sites open to the public, including the graves of Hatfields and McCoys like Randolph McCoy, Roseanna McCoy, Devil Anse Hatfield, and Johnse Hatfield. You’ll also visit historic landmarks like the Randolph McCoy Homeplace & Well, Hog Trial Cabin, Aunt Betty McCoy's House, the PawPaw Trees Site, and the Historic Pike County Courthouse.

Artifacts and Monuments
Along the tour, you’ll discover bullets fired in the New Year’s Day attack, burnt pieces of the McCoy cabin, and other fascinating feud artifacts. You’ll also see monuments honoring the families, including the hand-carved Randolph McCoy statue and the Devil Anse Hatfield statue.

Getting there: Start your tour at The Pikeville-Pike County, KY Welcome Center (685 Hambley Blvd., Pikeville, KY 41501). We’ll help you get pointed in the right direction, and our gift shop has unique memorabilia and locally made gifts.
Hours & access: The tour is available year-round, seven days a week. Sites are generally accessible during daylight hours, but some are on private property—please respect posted signs.
What to bring: Bring your curiosity, a camera to capture the scenery, and maybe a friend to share the experience. Cell reception can be limited, so consider downloading the audio tour before you begin.
